Maver Carey, Chief Executive Officer
Maver Carey serves as Chief Executive Officer of Nine Star Education & Employment Services, bringing more than 35 years of executive leadership experience in Alaska Native corporations, nonprofit organizations, workforce development, governance, strategic planning, and community partnership development.
Throughout her career, Maver has been dedicated to expanding opportunities for Alaska’s youth, adults, families, and communities by building strong organizations, developing collaborative partnerships, and creating sustainable pathways to education, employment, and economic growth. Her leadership is grounded in a commitment to empowering people, strengthening communities, and ensuring organizations remain mission-focused while delivering measurable results.
Prior to joining Nine Star, Maver served as Chief Executive Officer of The Kuskokwim Corporation (TKC), where she led the strategic direction and operations of multiple business and nonprofit subsidiaries. During her tenure, she worked closely with the Board of Directors and executive leadership to implement long-range strategic plans, strengthen governance, develop organizational capacity, and oversee a period of significant financial growth that increased organizational revenues from approximately $1 million to more than $100 million. She also established comprehensive leadership development and governance training programs for Board members and employees while facilitating regional strategic planning initiatives with Alaska Native tribes and community partners.
Maver is the founder of the Alaska Native Village Corporation Association (formerly the Alaska Native Village CEO Association), an organization created to strengthen leadership among Alaska Native Village Corporations through professional development, collaboration, and advocacy. The Association has provided statewide conferences and training focused on corporate governance, strategic planning, investment oversight, federal contracting, leadership development, and organizational management, serving executives, directors, land managers, shareholder professionals, finance staff, and other organizational leaders across Alaska.
A lifelong advocate for Alaska Native communities, Maver is of Yup’ik and Athabascan heritage and is an enrolled Tribal member of Aniak. She is also a shareholder of Calista Corporation, Chugach Alaska Corporation, and The Kuskokwim Corporation. She believes that lasting success is achieved through partnerships, innovation, accountability, and investment in people, and she is passionate about helping Alaskans gain the education, skills, and employment opportunities needed to build stronger futures.
Maver earned her degree from Gonzaga University and has been recognized with the Anchorage Top 40 Under 40 Award and the Athena Award for her leadership and service to Alaska communities.
